On November 2, 2010, I was elected to serve as a member to the Craven County Board of Commissioners to represent District 4. While this district is comprised of the Town of Trent Woods, the Town of River Bend and portions of the City of New Bern, my obligations will be to Craven County as a whole. It is my intent to help provide the residents of Craven County with a more open government with greater focus on fiscal responsibility and transparency.
The Craven County Board of Commissioners is responsible for enacting an annual budget in excess of $90 million. The Board sets property tax rates, passes ordinances, appoints members to dozens of boards, and establishes county policies impacting nearly 100,000 residents.
Some of the issues facing the Board include ensuring an adequate water supply for many areas within Craven County, working to promote Craven County as great place to do business, and producing a budget that maintains the current tax rate and restrains the growth of government.
On this website you will be able to stay current with my work on the County Board, information regarding positions I will be taking on critical issues impacting our community and as a way for you to express your views on my efforts as your commissioner. You will also be able to find dates I will be holding office hours in your neighborhood to help address your concerns.
During the Board's November 21, 2011, we adopted (5-2) a resolution I circulated to the members at an earlier meeting calling upon our local delegates to the North Carolina General Assembly to introduce a local bill requiring all Craven County voters to display a qualified photo ID prior to being allowed to register to vote or being allowed to cast a ballot. While I fully understand this issue has given rise to a great deal of controversy, I fundamentally believe the protection of our system of free and fair elections is paramount to our Republic.
I would like to thank all of the people who wrote to us with your concerns, those both in favor and opposed. I would also like to thank the leadership of the Coastal Carolina Taxpayers Association for their work to make certain the voices of those who stand in support of liberty were present at our November 21st meeting.

Thank you for your time and I look forward to serving you on the County Board.
Sincerely,
